When running Fedora 19 with Linux open source graphics drivers updated, 15 different Intel, AMD Radeon and NVIDIA GeForce GPUs were compared when we look at the performance of the open source Linux OpenGL. Analyzed Graphic processors ranging from integrated graphics Intel HD Graphics 4600 "Haswell" to the AMD Radeon HD 7950 graphics card "Southern Islands" of the vintage Radeon X1800XL.
With the installation of Fedora 19 KDE RC2 of the values provided by the Linux 3.9 kernel, Mesa 9.2-devel, and the latest X.Org DDX driver, the 15 different graphics configurations compared with the values and configuration settings. All OpenGL benchmarking was handled by the Phoronix Test Suite.
The tests were performed in the Core i7 4770K Haswell system HD Graphics 4600 can be benchmarked. For the integrated Intel Tested the AMD hardware was X1800XL Radeon, HD 4670, HD 4870, HD 5830, HD 6450, HD 6770, HD 6870, HD 6950, HD 7850 and HD 7950. NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards tested were the GeForce 9500GT, GTX 460, GTX 550 and GTX 680 Ti. The selection of NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards was less diverse as the nouveau driver not provide reverse out of the box re-synchronization support for NVIDIA GPU to operate at maximum speed. Coming in a later article, a comparison Phoronix closed versus open source driver for this system that the proprietary NVIDIA and AMD Catalyst results shown next to each other, to get a clear picture of the Linux desktop performance for OpenGL games has its.
